In June 2018, the government announced new legislation that requires all horses in the UK to have microchips.
Previously, only horses which had passport applications processed after 1 July 2009 required a valid microchip, now older horses will require a valid microchip implanted and registered, for identification purposes as part of the Central Equine Database. Once the new legislation is in force, the database will allow local authorities and police to identify abandoned, stray and stolen horses.
To support our clients in complying with the new legal obligations, we are running a discounted microchipping service.
Veterinary Services – Microchipping and Passports
Microchipping will be carried out at a reduced fee of £15 (usually £25) when carried out at the same time as vaccination or a dental check-up.
Terms and Conditions:
- Microchipping service must be requested at time of booking – our vets do not always carry high numbers of new microchips in their cars
- We will implant the new microchip and carry out the initial registration using PetLog-ID (a national database of pet microchip and owner details) – at the time of booking the client must provide current contact details to ensure the information we hold on file is correct for registration
- It is the owner’s responsibility to ensure the record with PetLog is kept up to date, including change of ownership, change of address or contact details
- GVG Brooks Equine Veterinary Practice reserve the right to withdraw this offer at any time
