We are proud to offer regenerative class IV laser therapy in the comfort of your horse’s stable.
Laser therapy is a relatively new therapy used in equine veterinary medicine, with current research suggesting promising results in improving healing. The class IV laser delivers high intensity pulsed laser impulses to target tissues, shown to aid repair and remodelling of soft tissue injuries, reduce scar tissue, aid normal regeneration of muscle fibres, have anti-inflammatory and analgesic (pain-killing) properties. This works by increasing cellular oxygenation and metabolism. Class IV laser treatment can only be carried out on animals by a Veterinary Surgeon.
We are currently treating horses with tendon and ligament injuries, as well as those with severe wounds. Potential candidates include those with acute or chronic deep or superficial digital flexor tendon (DDFT & SDFT) lesions, suspensory ligament branch injuries, or proximal suspensory ligament desmopathy cases where surgery is not appropriate.
Laser therapy may be used in conjunction with other biological regenerative therapies, such as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), IRAP or Stem Cell treatment. It is a painless procedure, that most horses tolerate well without sedation. The frequency of treatment varies on the injury type, but we typically recommend treatment for 10 days, at twice daily periods.
As with all treatments for orthopaedic conditions, it is vital an appropriate rehabilitation programme is followed to promote healing and strengthen the affected structures.
